The Miles City Rural/Frontier Training Track offers family medicine residents a unique opportunity to live and train in the heart of rural Montana. After completing the first year at our sponsoring institution, the Montana Family Medicine Residency in Billings, Montana’s first residency program, residents spend years two and three in Miles City, providing full-spectrum care to a diverse, underserved rural population.
From emergency medicine to obstetrics, pediatrics, geriatrics, and procedures, residents develop broad clinical skills and the confidence to work independently in resource-limited settings. Training emphasizes continuity of care, community engagement, and understanding the unique challenges and rewards of frontier practice.
With dedicated local preceptors, strong institutional support, and deep integration into the community, residents graduate ready to lead in rural and frontier health care—making a lasting difference where physicians are needed most.
