Our Program is developed specifically to meet the needs of rural Arkansans, including full scope Obstetrics. Where you live should not affect the quality of your health care at any stage of life, but rural residents in South Arkansas suffer some of the greatest drive times and disparities in achieving quality, timely care. With these ideas in mind, El Dorado’s community leaders in cooperation with our locally owned hospital, South Arkansas Regional Hospital, formed a collaboration with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to develop a Rural Track Program in Family Medicine with a special and unique emphasis on Obstetrics. We are recruiting and developing our program to help new physicians become the kind of family physicians needed in rural Arkansas. With strong community involvement, support of the local medical community, and resources from a world class academic medical center, our Rural Track Program is strongly positioned to become a leading training program for family physicians seeking to provide whole person care in the clinic, hospital, emergency department, and the labor and delivery unit.
Our Mission Statement
The mission of our program is to recruit, train, equip, and retain family medicine physicians who practice the full scope of family medicine, including prenatal/postnatal care and obstetrics, in rural Arkansas and other medically underserved areas. Graduates of the program are prepared to provide independent, comprehensive, patient centered care to families through all stages of life. The program aims to recruit physicians who feel called to serve rural Arkansas communities and provide service to those in the greatest need despite the challenges this path may bring, thereby enhancing the quality of healthcare and accessibility for families and communities for generations to come.
